Economic Planning of India. The modern age is the age of fast development. Fast development is feasible with economic Planning. Though planning is over 2400 years previous having its initial reference and formulation by Plato in his ‘Republic’ a similar idea earned a scientific form and support once the top of World War-II for the rehabilitation and reconstruction of war divested economies similarly as for the fast economic development of the underdeveloped economies. Therefore Planning is taken into account because of the remedy for the event of developing countries like India.
According to Prof. H.D Dickinson, economic planning is “The making of major economic decision what and how much to be produced and to whom it is to be allocated by the conscious decision of a determinate authority, on the basis of a comprehensive survey of the economic system as a whole.”
The First Five Year Plan of India observed that economic planning is ‘essentially a way of organizing and utilizing resources to maximum advantage in terms of defined social ends.
Features of Economic Planning of India
Thus, broadly speaking, economic planning is an organized and coordinated effort to achieve certain self-defined objectives within a fixed time frame through optimum utilization of the community’s resources so as to promote its general well-being.
(a)A planned economy provides a co-ordinate picture of the entire economy.
(b) A planned economy is one which safeguards the future interest of the economy and thereby makes necessary provision for building social and economic overheads.
(c) A planned economy is more egalitarian as it protects the interest of weaker and underprivileged sections of the society and thereby promotes social justice.
(d) A planned economy is characterized by the existence of extensive controls for optimum utilization of resources and efficient working of the economic system.
(e) A planned economy is considered as a centrally directed economy when every major economic decision is guided by necessary compulsions and advice so that the economy functions within the definite plan frame.
